Latest Rock Band ‘Imagi’ Introduces First Single ‘Merasuk’ | In its effort to empower and represent indie artists and bands around Malaysia, Rocketfuel Entertainment’s latest division, Rocketfuel Indie Space Station (RISS) has agreed to sign local indie band ‘Imagi’ under its wings with the release of the their first single entitled ‘Merasuk’.
Imagi which consists of six (6) experienced Malaysian musicians are Haziq Haminorddin (vocalist), Fitri Johari or Bab (vocalist/guitarist), Zulhilmi Ali or Amy Bong (keyboardist), Abror Mustafa (bassist), Nazmi Muzaffar (lead guitarist) ) and Hafidz Safar (drummer).
The alternative rock single brings back a genre which is rarely featured as of late was created by the band’s keyboardist, Amy Bong who happens to be a renowned composer, who is also responsible for the creation of some local hits songs by popular Malaysian singers.
“I’ve been a musician for quite some time in the local music scene.
“The six (6) of us started our musical journey during live performances at several music events, and we thought it’ll be fun to produce cover songs by Rocketfuel’s artists, and I guess that’s when RISS took notice and decided to sign us up as a band,” said Amy.
The band’s name, Imagi, was inspired and derived from the English word ‘imagi-nation’ which simply means imagination, Haziq further explained, “Everyone has their own imagination right? Whether it’s in the form of a fantasy, dream or anything that you wished for, and that’s where we use our imaginations to create songs.
What is interesting about the single, it was actually adapted from a true story, Bab added, “Merasuk tells the story of rejection, by a woman with a man who’s madly in love with her. Because of what was lost, he was tormented and became incoherent, not able to accept the fact that his love was rejected.
“So he became desperate and just willing to do anything as long as he could be with the woman he loves, while not knowing what ‘possessed’ him to do such acts.
A week-long recording session was held at the Alibaba Records Studio.
“The recording process for the single took us quite a while because we wanted the song to capture its true emotions through our music-storytelling.
“Besides that, we also put an emphasis on the mixing and mastering process so that the final product is in-line with our true ‘flavour’, and since it’s our first single, we really wanted to make sure it’s the best for our listeners,” said Abror.
The amount of rock bands that have emerged in the Malaysian music industry have been staggering, but legendary bands still remain and will always stay in the hearts of music fans, so what makes Imagi’s different? Nazmi said, “Our band has two (2) vocalists with different tones.
“When it comes to music, we take a different approach by combining modern and classic ideas so that each number we produce can be listened to by various age groups. We also did the recording process from beginning till end on our own, capturing our ‘soul’ in the song that we created.
Mr. Feros Sayna, The Head of Rocketfuel Entertainment said, “With the existence of RISS under Rocketfuel which provides a special platform for local indie artists, we carefully selected those who are truly qualified, to ensure the quality of music released under Rocketfuel.
“Imagi is a dynamic rock band that has its own unique sound. I hope with the release of their first single Merasuk, this band will garner more attention and develop a legion of fans in the future.
What is bold about Imagi is that they believe the music they represent is not necessarily centred around what is trending but more on the fact that they are seasoned musicians with experience.
“Our hopes for Merasuk are huge, we hope that listeners can accept the type of music we bring, and just open your mind because what we produce comes from the heart.
“We agree that it’s not easy to please every listener, give us a chance and we’ll try our best to produce better songs soon,” Hafidz concluded.
‘Merasuk’ is available for download on iTunes Store starting 18 February 2022 and as a caller ringtone from all major telecommunication service providers, and could easily be streamed and enjoyed 24/7 through various music-streaming portals such as Apple Music, Spotify, Joox, YouTube Music, KKBox and Deezer.
